DA Travel Edition: Surviving Jet Lag
If you know, you know; and we know! Even the most seasoned travelers struggle with this one thing, Jet Lag! What’s worse than having a two week vacation to the Amalfi Coast and for the first three days you’re there you find yourself tucked in bed all day and up ready for dinner at 11pm. We have five tips to help you ditch jet lag and be fresh for your trip!
First things first, it might sound cliche but, Water. H2o is the number one helper when it comes to jet lag. It’s best to start getting that gallon of water in on your way to the airport and keep it up during your trip. Having your body hydrated will promote a healthy sleep cycle while you’re on a different schedule and will also be a big helper for once your back to your routine at home.
Another tip is setting a similar environment that replicates the one you have at home. Having tools like you do at home can make for a successful sleep! Whether that means, essential oils with your diffuser ( they make little travel sized ones) or a sleep mask, ear plugs, white noise, whatever it may be! Connecting to your comfortable sleep surroundings will assure a peaceful night’s rest.
One thing we know jet lag can’t stand up against is a little exercise, fresh air, and some sunshine. If you arrive during the day on your trip it’s important to stay out and move your body. Going in for a nap that first day may turn into an all day sleep fest, which will be setting your body up for daily naps. Get out and soak up the sun. With that being said it’s equally as important to go to bed at a decent time to get your internal clock set.
Finally there are a few homeopathic meds out there that we have tried and seem to work! The one that we see that has worked for us is “No-jet-lag” . It’s one of our favorites made out of herbs and Arnica to help with getting you on track with your sleep schedule. We hope this journal has you feeling confident about your next time zone.
